The Mormon church doesn't advocate submitting people's names for this if they're not family members. I know it's hard to really comprehend the context of this situation from the outside, but this is not anything that the "Mormon church" did. This was done by a single individual. The way it works is an individual brings in the information for their supposed ancestors/family members. There is no background checking or computer verification to ensure that they are really related to that individual.
The person who did this, did it against the protocol of the church, which is touched on in the news articles but not explained very well.
I know the Mormons are a very big and very easy target, especially here in Utax, but this story is way overblown.

That seems very irresponsible of the LDS Church not to do some checking. The Mormon church should take this as a wake up call and implement measures to prevent such a hiccup from happening again...or will it just be business as usual?
